Bear Creek Open Space Preserve

This is an interesting little hiking space near my home.  Permits are necessary and can be obtained here:
openspace.org
The map is almost pointless, but luckily most of the trails circle back to the abandoned school.  Besides you will be able to hear the traffic from Bear Creek Road a 17 and that is more than enough to info to keep from getting lost.
Bring water and there are no bathrooms

This is the eerie walk from the car to the abandoned school.  Not a great hike to do alone after binging watching the last season of the The Walking Dead.

Another creepy building on the far side of the loop around the buildings.  Stared long enough at the windows for movement that I finally thought I saw some...

I thought I could get good pictures if I just went slightly around the dark creepy corner path...
But no, the creepiness is not evident until I go further down the dark path I down want to go down...
Weird empty brick building at the top of a hill

Found this weird concrete wall structure, I'm going tweak it and post it to instagram as me next to a waterfall!
If you squint you can see the waterfall.

I stopped to have a little lunch where I could watch the traffic on 17.  Of course this little bugger started  to follow me
This is me flipping off a vulture that was circling me...he is so certain of my ill health, that he is perched and ready. He is not as far away as he appears...he is at the top of the tree to the right of my finger.  Not today SUCKER!!

Overgrown stairs to nowhere (sounds like a kick-ass Zeppelin cover band)
Burnt out house with a car still in the garage...very zombie apocalypse

overgrown alter...possibly a super fancy water fountain ;)

two buildings connected in the middle with a bell tower...everyone is late for class!

Some of URBY's finest work
Vague area closed signs placed off the path as if to discourage wandering off into the brush, but also  near the paths...I used them as a "choose your own adventure" options!
This was the third flat part of the this hill that I thought was the top...probably the next one (famous last words)
A brow furrowing creepy building next to a creepy path!
This is where the hike started in front of the "Horror Movie" approved abandoned school.

Amy Butler Layered Skirt

Amy Butler Barcelona Skirt Pattern

I just love the Amy Butler Barcelona Skirt pattern. I have made 3 different skirts from the pattern so far. This is my first one and I used Amy Butler Optic Blossom Linen fabric. I really love gray and yellow together. I made some adjustments to the pattern. I shortened it considerably because the length looked a little too "sister wife" on me.

Yikes...calf length is not flattering. I cut off about 5 inches so that the skirt ended up being knee length.

The pattern has raw edges on the layers and they are supposed to fray. I really liked this fabric and the raw edges bothered me because it just didn't seem like this would be very durable. I really did like the look of the raw edges, but after all this work if the skirt fell apart I would be heart broken. I turned the raw edge under 1/4 inch and stitched.

I really loved this skirt pattern and it was fairly easy to follow. I even put in an invisible zipper just like a real skirt!
Now if it would just stop raining and act like it's almost summer, I could wear all my new skirts!

Baby Quilt

I try to make quilts for all baby showers. I really enjoy quilting and everyone seems to be very happy to receive them! I made this quilt for a close friend before we knew the gender of the baby, so I tried to make it out of gender neutral colors. Turns out she is having a boy and I hope that she likes the quilt!
I finally figure out how to do mitered corners thanks to the website Sew to Speak. I seriously love the tutorials on the web. I even made my own bias tape!

I am still working on embroidery and my label is a little wonky...just got a hoop so maybe next time they will turn out better.

Soccer Cookies

I made these soccer ball cookies for Beck's soccer team. I used a sugar cookie recipe from Martha Stewart website and they turned out pretty yummy!! Let me tell you how messy black icing is...Beck and I looked like we were fingerprinted! They were a big hit after the game.

Beck's Halloween Costume

This is the character that Beck wanted to be for Halloween. This is Silver the Hedgehog. He is a lesser known character in a Sonic game that he likes. Of course, they do not sell this costume at Target...so I had to make one.
This is the costume that I made!!! I used a pattern for a cat costume and then customized it to be a cartoon hedgehog. This is the first time I have ever made anything from a pattern....it even has a zipper!
Beck liked the costume fine until we went trick or treating and someone asked him if he was a Goat!!! I thought it turned out pretty decent and all the kids that play the Sonic games at his school knew who he was supposed to be.
